Saffron goes to green?

The BJP might be the most hated political formation for Pakistan, for its pro-Hindu contours. Yet, it is only the BJP leaders who have been breaking the ice with Pakistan and making an endeavour to bridge the gap.

Way back in 1978, the then foreign minister Atal Behari Vajpayee was honoured by Pakistan with the highest civilian award, Nishan-e-Pakistan, for making efforts to broker peace between the two nations.

Two decades later, it was again Vajpayee who drove by a special bus to Pakistan, offer his respect at Minar-e-Pakistan..and even raised heckles in the neighbouring country.

Following his footsteps in a way, another BJP leader LK Advani in 2003 sought to shed the mantle of Hindu chauvinism by describing Jinnah as a secular person. Back home, the storm built up so strongly against him that he had to relinquish his office as BJP president.

Jaswant Singh, as one of the senior most BJP leaders, followed suit by eulogising Jinnah as a person, who should neither be idolised nor villainised... and there we are...

Isn't it curious that ever since Nehru messed up with Kashmir, no Congress leader ever tried making mends with Pakistan, it is rather the BJP leaders who have been stretching to unruffle the feathers.

Now that the BJP is in disarray and the three leaders who ventured out are at terminal stages of their political careers , will it hold anymore ?

PS: Please dont take it as a press note from the BJP headquarters...
